Silicaf L.P. is a paint containing potassium silicate in aqueous solution, inorganic pigments and mineral fillers. Unlike other paints, whose protective action occurs by a process of physical nature, silicate paints base their protective action on a process of chemical nature given by the reaction of silicates with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Reacting with the calcium salts in the plaster, Silicaf L.P. forms the calcium silicate which becomes an integral part of the plaster. The adhesion to the substrate is given by the silica which binds the particles of fillers and pigments between them during the reaction and makes it adhere to the support. These features and the complete lack of film give the product excellent physicochemical properties. Silicaf L.P. is ideal for the restoration of historical and architectural buildings.
